Phocus Sparkling Water
Phocus Sparkling Water is a zero calorie carbonated water beverage infused with green tea caffeine, the amino acid L-theanine, and electrolytes.
It is unsweetened and similar to beverages like the brand La Croix.
Flavors of Phocus
- Blood Orange
- Yuzu Lime
All flavors have the same amount of caffeine.
The company recently sent us free samples of Phocus for review.
Sparkling water is all the rage and the brand La Croix is even the subject of countless internet memes. I love sparkling water and it’s a refreshing alternative to plain water as well as a much healthier alternative to soda.
Therefore, I was excited to learn about Phocus because it is supposed to be just like the sparkling water that I enjoy but with added caffeine and the amino acid L-theanine.
There are five varieties of Phocus and I was able to taste all five.
Natural (Plain): I often make and drink plain sparkling water with my Sodastream, so I was most interested in how Phocus would compare. After all, this is the true test since there are no fruit flavors to cover up anything. I was blown away. Phocus tastes just like plain soda water. I couldn’t detect the caffeine one iota. Impressive since caffeine usually has a bitter taste.
Grapefruit: This is probably one of my favorite flavors when it comes to canned sparkling water and again, Phocus nailed it. Their grapefruit version is as good as any I’ve tried.
Cucumber: Phocus definitely nailed the flavor. It tastes like cucumber water. I love a good cucumber in my salad but not in my beverage.
Yuzu Lime: I also like a good lime flavored sparkling water and Phocus again did a great job with this one. It is refreshing to drink.
Blood Orange: This flavor is also great and has a nice lively orange flavor.
Another great thing I like about Phocus is that it is calorie-free and contains nothing artificial. It’s just sparkling water, real fruit flavor, green tea caffeine, L-theanine, and electrolytes.
First of all, I wouldn’t put Phocus in the same category as an energy drink. It lacks most of the ingredients found in traditional energy drinks. It’s more accurately described as an enhanced soft drink.
Caffeine-wise, Phocus provides a moderate lift and is similar to 3 cups of green tea or one shot of espresso. But, just like green tea, the L-theanine in Phocus provides a calming effect that negates the jitteriness that caffeine can cause. L-theanine has also been shown to enhance focus and concentration. I consumed a can prior to my gym workout and I liked the boost it gave not only to my stamina but also to my mental state.
Overall, I’m a huge fan of this product. I don’t drink energy drinks but I would drink Phocus on a regular basis because it is just like the sparkling water that I enjoy but with a little something extra.
Even though Phocus tastes similar to the brands of sparkling water you may give to your kids, it is not intended for children and should be consumed by healthy adults only.
